This diorama was spooky. Because heavy snow cover in dioramas isn’t the easiest task. There’s a very thin line between the snow looking like actual snow or a sugar-coated donut. I already failed with this task in the past, so I was on edge the whole time. But luckily, I already had a proven concept that worked on the tank, so I knew it would work in the diorama as well – all that was needed was to stay focused, persistent, and brave!
Some time before I started thinking about the diorama, RT sent me a set of their brand-new 3D-printed fir trees. The moment I saw them, I knew they would fit the scene perfectly. I used a few reference images from the Winter War in Finland to get a general idea about the snow, how the trees grew, how the dirt roads were affected by the Soviet army, etc. Even the rudimentary wood and wire fence came from one of those historical images!
