This is a very important diorama for me. Why? Because it was technically my first REAL diorama. All my previous attempts were just decorated display stands or vignettes at best. This was the first one with figures, a building, and an actual story – the most crucial aspect of a diorama. If the scene doesn’t tell a story (it can be the simplest story), it’s not really a diorama. Or at least that’s what the diorama legend Shep Paine said in his book. If I’m honest, I don’t care too much about nomenclature, just putting the explanation here for good measure.

The diorama, however, lacks an important element for me – composition. Sure, I crammed all the elements on the base, but not in a pleasing way. Luckily, I realized the importance of a good composition right away and since then I pay a lot of attention and time to the initial composition of my scenes. If the diorama is not an absolute delight to observe from the primary viewing angle, it’s not a good diorama for me. I know that other modelers might not care that much about composition, and that’s totally fine! It’s just my little kink 🙂
