This little vignette rose from leftovers from my previous model – the Karl Mortar. The kit came with beautiful metal shells, and they were massive! It would be a sin to throw them away (since I didn’t use them on the model), but luckily, at that moment I already knew about a bunch of historical photos showing these shells in, let’s say, peculiar places.

As it turns out, this ammunition was unreliable and it often didn’t explode on impact. Some of the photos I found showed them in what looked like a ruined building. After some research, I found that the photos were taken in the Adria Hotel in Warsaw (it still stands to this day). The shell hit the roof of the hotel and crashed all the way down into the basement where it was photographed by German sappers. I loosely interpreted the scenario in this vignette.
