Revay’s mill
My very first facade that’s been completely made in digital form. I used it to learn the basics in Fusion360 where I used the real-life photograph as a scaled-down canvas. The resulting 3D model was very accurate, but bland due to the lack of textures. So I decided to learn a few basic sculpting and texturing methods in Blender, and once the 3D model was finished, I printed it on my Elegoo Saturn Ultra 16K.
The real wall is a part of a much larger old grain mill located in a nearby village. This small section used to be a bakery, but now the whole structure stands abandoned and boarded up. Thanks to the precise 3D modelling, it’s pretty much a perfect replica of the real building. My only creative liberties were the ghost sign on the wall, and the rusty pipes and rods sticking out of the wall.
I painted it in my spare time and large sections of the wall were finished for demonstration purposes. The decayed plaster was filmed as a demo piece for AK Interactive’s new line of acrylic washes, the concrete and bricks were painted on a live demo in France, and the rusty details were finished on a model show in Greece. I just had to refine the paint job once I returned home, and finished the remaining sections once I found some extra time.
The finished facade now hangs on a wall next to my other miniature fragments of architectural decay.
